■ Consumer Confidence Index Grow Triggered by Civil Servant Salary Increase, Bank Indonesia Survey

Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) on February 2009 shows an increase driven by civil servants salary increase and income tax incentive for employee.

BI surveys shows index in February, 96.4 or 3.6 points increase compared to the previous month and 4 point increase compared to the same period in 2008.

According to the BI survey result cited on Tuesday(10/3), index rose in February 2009 due to the 4.1 point increase in Consumer's Expectation Index (IEK)and 3.0 point increase on Current Economic Conditions Index (IKE).

In February 2009, IKE was 82.7 or 3.0 point increase compared to the previous month.

IKE growth driven by increase on durable goods purchasing time accuracy index (3.9 points), current income index (2.6 points) and employment availability index (2.4 points).

BI survei predicted, the government policies to rise civil servant salaries will give a positive signal to the IKE and made the respondents more optimistic on their household economy.

On annual basis, IKE experienced 0.2 point growth.

In February 2009, IEK was 110.0 or up 4.1 point compared to previous month, and increased 7.8 point compared with February 2008,

Based on the answers by the majority of respondents (40.26% of total respondents), the main reason for increase caused by the prediction that government and the private sector will raise it projects and will absorp an employment.

Furthermore, IEK increase driven by growth on economic expectations index (5.7 points) and earnings expectations index (1.0 points).

■ German Businesses Seek Investment Opportunity in Geothermal Sector

Investors from Germany expressed an interest to put an investment in Indonesia's geothermal sector.
 
Ernest Pfister, Minister of Economics of the State of Baden-Württemberg Tuesday (10/3) said the geothermal potential resources in Indonesia is very large.
 
Meanwhile, Germany has advanced technology to use in that sector.
 
Ernest hope, with the combination of German technology and Indonesia geothermal potential resources, so it could tied to the mutually beneficial cooperation between two countries.
